I love to cook. For me, sharing food that I spent time, effort and creativity into making is one of the ways I show the ones I love, how much I care. I am also the kind of person who would live off of Top Ramen if I had no one to cook for. For me, the joy is in being able to share it and being able to have someone else appreciate it.

I love cooking for my dogs. And I am not sure anyone can beat the enthusiasm of a home cooked meal or treat than my two beagles. Making homemade food and treats for them allows me know exactly what my dogs are consuming and know that the ingredients are wholesome.

This pumpkin treat recipe is wheat free, easy to make and will allow Fido to partake in some of the holiday flavors and festivities.

Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe

Ingredients

3 cups of flour of choice, I used Rice Flour  (wheat flour is fine if your dog doesn’t have any sensitives to wheat). 2 cups for the batter, 1 cup for keeping things from sticking.

1/2 cup of peanut butter (make sure the only ingredient in your peanut butter is peanuts)

1 cup of pureed pumpkin (fresh or canned)

2 eggs

1 Teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

1 Teaspoon of ground ginger (optional)

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking tray with a non stick sheet. I like to use a silicone sheet because we try to keep things as waste free as possible over here.

2.  Combine 2 cups of flour with the rest of the ingredients until everything is thoroughly mixed and combined.

3. The dough is pretty sticky, so you will want to generously flour your counter and pinwheel as you roll out the dough. Add more flour as need be to keep things from sticking.

4. Use some kind of cookie cutter to cut out the shapes of your treats. I used these fun pie crust molds of leaves, to really get into the fall spirit.

5. Bake in oven for about 12 minutes or until the texture is what your going for. I like mine firm enough to hold together well but soft enough to break into smaller pieces in my hand without crumbling.

6. Once they are cool enough, let your pup enjoy! These treats need to be stored in the refrigerator, or they will spoil quickly.
